Living Your Life Purrfectly Authentic…January 2006

Whew…I made it.   2006 couldn't get here fast enough.   If you read last month's column you know just how FULL 2005 was for me.   Turning 40 has been enlightening as well as a frightening experience.   I have learned things that I didn't even want to know.   However, I am eternally grateful for each and every lesson that I have encountered.

So tell me, how do you start your New Year?   What changes do you promise yourself that you are going to make?   Are you one of those people that likes to create a list of the usual Resolutions; determined to drop a few pounds; to leave that job that doesn't feed your spirit; to end that relationship that is not nurturing or loving enough to speak to your heart?   Can you remember those New Year's past when you made a list of ten things and promised yourself that you were going to follow them well into the year only to find that your drive lasted only the first couple of weeks?   So what went wrong?   What could you have done differently to help you stick to that list of things?   Are you open to creating a totally different type of list?

Here is my suggestion…instead of making a New Year's Resolution list filled with things that you think you should do based on other peoples opinions, society's conditioning or the latest fad; let's make a List of Intentions.   Intentions are less “demanding” and are well thought out ideas that come from your higher self.   Here is a New Year's Intention Ritual for you:

•  Set aside at least 1.5 hours of uninterrupted time

•  Create a space of serenity and peace by:

•  Playing soothing music

•  Low lighting

•  A glass of wine, cup of coffee, tea, hot chocolate or a bottle of water

•  Have at your disposal a note pad and a writing instrument of your choice

Begin your list of intentions by indulging yourself in a game of imagination and inspiration.   I often use this exercise within the first few sessions with my clients.   It entails you creating your Purrfect Life Story.   This consists of writing down what you would consider to be the “Purrfect” life for you if you had a magic wand and could create it in any way you wanted to.   Money tends to be the main reason why people do not pursue their dreams but let's remove that factor and state for the record that “You have all of the money that you will ever need”.

Within this Purrfect Life Story, I want you to create a paragraph or two that details your Purrfect Life Story in each of these areas:

•  Spiritual

•  Health

•  Physical

•  Mental

•  Emotional

•  Financial

•  Relational

•  Friendships

•  Partners/Lovers

•  Marriage

•  Educational

•  Recreational

•  Professional/Career

Do not be afraid to write anything down.   This is for your review only.   You can be as creative as you like.   Remember this is your Purrfect Life Story and no one is here to judge you.   Understand that they personality is going to try and keep you from writing down anything.   It will tell you “this is stupid; no one is going to be that good; you are setting yourself up for a big let down; who believes in this mumbo-jumbo.”   Stick with it and don't allow fear and negativity to pull you down.   If you find that you can't seem to kick start your lists…feel free to email me for additional tips on how to move beyond the “blocks”.

I've decided to create a theme for this year's column.   This year I will focus on reconnecting, understanding and accepting the child within.

In light and love…Until next month
